Tom Young is a fresh, innovative stand-up and improvisational comedian from Leicestershire. Tom's work includes routines about his own appearance, the groups who are omitted by political correctness, nerd-pride, fairy tales, the ridiculousness of homophobia, fashion, and much more.
Tom studied Creative Writing at the University of Northampton, and was a regular performer with the university's improvised comedy group "Indescriptable". Tom has also been a regular performer with Leicester's Unidentified Flying Improv group from January 2010 to March 2013, performing throughout the year, including shows in the Leicester Comedy Festivals of 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Tom is now the director/performer of his own improvisation group, The Same Faces (formed April 2013). The group perform at their two resident gigs in Leicester and Northampton.
Tom has previously served as the regular compère for the Y Theatre's "Emergency!" arts showcase in Leicester, and the Comedy Lab in Northampton. He's currently the regular compère at We Are Most Amused comedy club, also in Northampton.
Tom's first solo show, Tom Young's Social Network, was a sell out success in the Leicester Comedy Festival 2011, while his second show, Tom Young's Fantasy Life, was artistically successful in 2012. These were followed with his third show, Tom Young's Unfashionable Thinking, in 2013, and a fourth show, Tom Young's Got Issues, will debut in 2014.
He also has an extraordinary record in stand up competitions including Laughing Horse New Act of the Year 2011, Chortle Student Comedy Award 2010 and 2011, and Midlands Stands Up 2011, having entirely failed to make it through the first round of any of them. The most recent of these failures came in 2012, when Tom spectacularly failed to even qualify for the heats of the BBC's New Comedy Award.
Tom is available for stand up bookings, as he is always looking to develop new material to add to his repertoire.
